Severn Trent De Nora appoints Quantum as sole UK Agent for BalPure Ballast Water Treatment Systems.
Quantum appointed selected to represent STDN's brilliant BalPure system in the UK marine market.
Quantum is very proud to have been selected by Severn Trent De Nora to act as sole UK Agent for their newly Type-Approved Ballast Water Treatment System, BalPure.
With the forthcoming ratification of the Ballast Water Convention, the commercial shipping industry is facing a very costly retrofit of BWT equipment, reckoned by some to be worth over $30bn over the course of the next few years. Many BWT system manufacturers have sprung up, eyeing this pot of gold, whereas the technology in BalPure is identical to that used in other STDN systems for over 40 years.
BWT by electrochlorination uses the chlorine so naturally abundant in seawater as a mild disinfectant in the ballast tanks of a vessel whilst in transit to inactivate living organisms and stop the spread of non-indigenous species.
BalPure's technology is based on what is well known to be an effective and energy efficient approach to treating such large volumes of water...a field in which STDN are global leaders.
BalPure only treats 1% of the total volume and uses this 'slipstream' to dose the other 99% of the flow. Not only does this approach save on energy costs, it also allows the BalPure system to be remotely mounted and even split into separate remote subassemblies when space is at a premium. It also means the unit can be mounted outside of hazardous cargo areas in most cases, and away from the ballast mains in all cases, saving more money for the owner and making installation as simple as possible for both retrofits and newbuilds.
Nick Dalton, Managing Director of Quantum, says "This Agency with such a global leader in their field is a major landmark for Quantum. We are currently recruiting the people we need on board to deliver a world class service to STDN's UK customers and already the interest from major players in the industry is fantastic. I do not believe there is a better BWT system in the world, and it is a real honour to have been selected by STDN to represent BalPure in the UK."
